As a Phoenix maternity photographer, one of my favorite things about summer sessions is escaping the desert heat and heading north for cooler temperatures, lush greenery, and beautiful scenery. For Alyssa and Aaron’s maternity session, we chose Granite Basin Lake in Prescott, Arizona, and it could not have been more perfect.
June in Phoenix often means triple-digit temperatures, but just a short drive north offers a completely different landscape. Granite Basin Lake is one of my favorite locations for maternity photography because of its stunning combination of water, pine trees, granite boulders, and vibrant summer greenery. It’s a location I find myself returning to every year, and every session there feels unique.
From the moment we arrived, Alyssa and Aaron were incredibly trusting of my vision and the photography process. That trust is one of the biggest ingredients in creating authentic, emotional images. While it’s completely normal to feel a little nervous at the beginning of a photoshoot, I always encourage my clients to simply focus on each other and enjoy the experience.
As the session progressed, their comfort and connection became more visible in every photograph. By the middle of the session, they were completely relaxed, and their excitement for their growing family shined through naturally. Those genuine moments are always my favorite to capture.
Alyssa brought two beautiful outfits that added wonderful variety to her maternity gallery. She began the session wearing a casual white summer sundress that perfectly complemented the natural surroundings of Granite Basin Lake. The simple, effortless look felt timeless and allowed the focus to remain on the sweet connection between her and Aaron.
For the second half of the session, she changed into a gorgeous pink lace maternity gown that added a more elegant and romantic feel to the photographs. The soft pink tones paired beautifully with the green landscape and reflected light from the water, creating images that felt both dreamy and sophisticated.
One of the reasons I love maternity photography is documenting this unique season of anticipation. There’s something so special about capturing the excitement, love, and connection before a baby arrives. Alyssa and Aaron’s session was filled with all of those emotions, and I am honored they trusted me to preserve these memories.
