The Best Family Photos Aren’t Always Perfectly Posed
Some of my favorite images aren’t the ones where everyone is looking straight at me. They’re the moments between the poses, the genuine belly laughs, the little hands throwing water, the surprised look on Dad’s face after getting soaked, and Mom laughing because the kids have completely taken over. Those are the moments that tell your family’s story.
Years from now, your kids probably won’t remember being told to smile. They’ll remember splashing around together at Salt River, and every time you look at those photos, you’ll remember it too.
Why Play Makes Such a Difference
Kids connect through play. When they’re running, exploring, or splashing in the water, they’re not thinking about posing for pictures. They’re simply being themselves, and that’s when personalities shine.
It’s when shy kids start laughing. It’s when siblings forget they’re supposed to be annoyed with each other. It’s when parents stop worrying about getting the “perfect” photo and start enjoying the moment. Ironically, that’s usually when the perfect photo happens.
Why Salt River Is Such a Fun Location for Family Photos
Salt River is one of my favorite locations for families who love being outdoors. The beautiful desert scenery mixed with the water creates something you don’t find in many places around Phoenix. During the warmer months, it’s also a wonderful way to keep everyone comfortable while creating a completely different experience than a traditional family session.
If your family enjoys adventure, don’t mind getting your feet wet, and love spending time together outside, Salt River might be the perfect place for your next family photos.
You Don’t Need Perfect Kids
I wish every parent knew this before their session. Your children don’t need to sit perfectly still. They don’t need to smile every second. They don’t need to behave like tiny adults. They just need to show up and be themselves.
My job isn’t to make your kids act differently. My job is to create an environment where your family can relax, have fun, and make memories together. Sometimes that means we play games. Sometimes we run. Sometimes we tell silly jokes. And sometimes… we end up splashing each other in the river.
Honestly, those are usually the sessions everyone remembers the most.
