ASU Graduation Photos: What to Expect + Tips for a Smooth Session

If you’re planning your ASU graduation photos, there are a few things I want you to know ahead of time so your experience feels smooth, relaxed, and actually enjoyable. Arizona State University is such a fun place to celebrate this season of life, but during graduation months it can get extremely crowded. Knowing what to expect will help you go into your ASU graduation photos session feeling prepared instead of overwhelmed.

Book Early and Be Strategic With Timing

ASU graduation photos fill up fast every single year. If this is something you know you want, booking early makes a big difference.

Even more important is when you book within the season. Graduation photo traffic typically runs from early April through May. If you want a slightly calmer experience, try to book at the very beginning of April or toward the very end of May. Peak weeks in the middle tend to be the busiest.

Expect Crowds at the Most Popular Spots

Locations like Old Main, the main fountain, and the palm walk are some of the most requested spots for ASU graduation photos.

They are beautiful, but they are also the most crowded.

If you are hoping for photos in these areas, just know there will likely be lines. Part of your session may include waiting your turn, especially during peak season. I always work efficiently and find ways to keep things moving, but patience is part of the experience here.

Plan Around the Large Graduation Sign

The large graduation sign on Old Main Lawn is one of the most popular photo spots each year.

It is typically installed from early April through late May. Because of that limited window, it becomes one of the busiest locations on campus.

If this is a must-have for your ASU graduation photos, I recommend booking as early as possible within that timeframe or waiting until the very end when crowds start to slow down slightly.

Consider Other ASU Campuses for a Better Experience

If you love the idea of ASU graduation photos but want to avoid the heavy crowds, this is something I highly recommend considering.

Take a look at:

  • ASU West campus
  • ASU Downtown Phoenix campus

You still get the ASU feel and architecture, but with far fewer people around. This gives us more space, more flexibility, and a much more relaxed session overall.

Sunrise Sessions Make a Huge Difference

If you are open to it, sunrise sessions are one of the best ways to elevate your ASU graduation photos experience.

Mornings are quieter, cooler, and much less chaotic. It allows us to move freely and capture a wider variety of images without constantly working around crowds.

Be Ready to Move Around

During your ASU graduation photos session, we will likely move between locations to find the best light and avoid heavier traffic areas.

This helps create more variety in your gallery and keeps your session flowing smoothly even when certain spots are busy.

ASU graduation photos are such a special way to celebrate everything you have accomplished. It is a busy season, but with the right expectations and a little planning, it can still feel easy and fun.

My goal is always to create an experience where you feel taken care of from start to finish, even in the middle of a crowded campus.

And trust me, we will still create something beautiful.

Let's rock your senior session!
