Bartlett Lake Wildflowers

Anna

There is something about senior year that feels different. You can feel it in the air. It is the last year of everything familiar and the first year of everything new.

Anna’s senior session took us out to Bartlett Lake, about 50-60 miles outside of Central Phoenix. Yes, it requires a travel fee. And yes, it is absolutely worth it.

Because sometimes you have to leave the city to find the magic.

Anna told me from the beginning that wildflowers were a priority. Not just a “that would be nice” kind of detail. They mattered. She wanted soft. She wanted natural. She wanted something that felt like her.

And wildflowers in Arizona are not guaranteed.

We drove. We searched. We hoped.

Desert blooms are fleeting. They show up quietly and disappear just as quickly. Within a couple of weeks after her session, they were gone. Completely.

There is something poetic about that. Senior year feels the same way. You think you have time. You think it will last. And then suddenly you are packing for college.

Anna attends Campo Verde High School in Gilbert. She plays softball and is heading to college on a scholarship to continue playing at the next level. That takes discipline. That takes heart. That takes years of showing up when no one is watching.

But in the middle of all that strength, she is still a senior girl standing in a field of flowers with the whole world ahead of her.

That is the part I love to photograph.

The in between.

Not a little girl anymore. Not fully stepping into adulthood yet. Just right here. Right now. Carefree enough to laugh when the wind catches her hair. Confident enough to know she is stepping into something bigger.

Her style paired so beautifully with the desert landscape. Soft tones against the open Arizona sky. Wildflowers framing a season that will never look exactly like this again.

This is why I encourage my seniors to dream a little bigger when it comes to location. Whether you attend Campo Verde or another high school in the Phoenix area, your session does not have to feel ordinary. If that means driving out to Bartlett Lake or chasing blooms that may only last two weeks, I am in.

Senior year deserves to be romanticized.

It deserves the road trip.
The wildflowers.
The golden light.

Because years from now, when Anna looks back at these photos, I want her to remember more than what she wore.

I want her to remember who she was becoming.
