There is something special about photographing in the Broccoli Fields of Buckeye, AZ… a hidden gem that transforms with the seasons. The farm owner of Sweet Flower Home is kind enough to let photographers wander through her fields, capturing golden wheat, radiant sunflowers, and vibrant yellow broccoli blossoms. Every year, I look forward to each new season. This is how, as a Phoenix photographer, I think our beautiful Arizona desert does have season changes and you have to just look a little bit harder to see them. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to create in such a beautiful space.
This time, I had the pleasure of photographing Olivia… a high school senior with an artistic soul. She attends Perry High School in Gilbert, AZ, and made the drive all the way out to Buckeye just for these stunning photos. And honestly? I think it was worth it.
Olivia isn’t just creative… she’s also a dedicated athlete, running track and cross country. While we didn’t incorporate that into her session, she knew exactly what she wanted which was gorgeous, dreamy photos surrounded by flower fields. There’s something about a senior who takes charge of their own session… finding their photographer, choosing their location, and making it their own. Olivia found me on her own, loved my style, and sent my information to her parents to book. I love that. It means so much when a senior connects with my work and truly wants me to be part of their senior year experience.
One of my favorite moments from her session was at the very end… when we took a step back from traditional senior portraits and played with something a little more artsy. I felt like I could do this with her since she loved art. Using the delicate broccoli blossoms, we created unique shadows across her face, blending her love of art with my love of photography. From one artist to another… she appreciated the creativity behind the shot, and I loved that we got to make something different together.
In the thick of senior season, I cannot express how much I love meeting these incredible young adults, capturing their stories and such a big milestone in this transition of life, and working in breathtaking locations like Buckeye’s Broccoli Fields. Olivia’s senior photos are proof that when you choose a place that speaks to you, the results will always feel special.
