Meet Shawna | Associate Photographer – Memories by Candace

So, here’s the thing… I can’t be in two places at once. I’ve tried. It usually ends with me holding my camera in one hand, a coffee in the other, and probably tripping over a rock while trying to capture the perfect shot.

 

Which is exactly why I’m so grateful to have Shawna on my team.

 

She’s been second shooting weddings with me for a while now, and honestly, she’s the kind of person who just gets it. She’s calm, professional, has an incredible eye, and she’s the kind of human you instantly trust (even if your toddler is melting down mid-session).

 

I slowly started handing her more responsibility, and at some point, I realized… okay, she’s not just helping…she’s nailing it. And she needs to be on the team. So now, she is!

 

Shawna is my associate photographer, which means she’ll be photographing some sessions for Memories by Candace, especially on weekends or when my calendar is full. The best part? I still edit every single gallery myself, so your final images will look just like they always have. Same warm tones. Same storytelling feel. Same heart.

 

Just with an extra set of hands. (That aren’t holding coffee and tripping over rocks.)

Photographer + Single Mom to 3 Kids + Homeschool Teacher + Music Teacher

Shawna’s been behind the camera since 2008, which basically means she’s been chasing good light and sweet moments since the days when flip phones were still a thing.

 

She’s a single mom to three amazing kids, a full-time music teacher, a homeschooler (yes, also that), and somehow still finds the energy to show up to your session like she just had a full spa day. I am honestly a little confused about how she does it all, but I love her for it.

 

She has a B.S. in K–12 Music Education and a B.A. in Music Performance from the University of Mary in North Dakota, which means she’s technically qualified to teach your kids piano and pose them for the perfect golden-hour family photo. (Multitasking queen, basically.)

 

Shawna started working with me as a second shooter at weddings, and from the start, I knew she had the eye, but more importantly, she had the heart. She makes people feel at ease, handles high-stress moments like a pro, and always brings a calm, collected presence to sessions (even when a toddler is yelling “NO PICTURES!” on repeat).

 

She now shoots associate sessions for Memories by Candace, and I handle all the editing. So when you are photographed by Shawna, you’re getting the best of both worlds: her laid-back, natural shooting style and my signature editing touch. Easy, consistent, and full of love…just how we like it.
