When it comes to senior photos, one of the biggest questions I get as a Phoenix senior photographer is, “Where should I take my photos?”
Sophia made that decision easy.
Sophia is a senior at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona, and from the beginning she knew she wanted her senior pictures to include Camelback Mountain. Not just as a backdrop, but as a meaningful part of her session.
She specifically had her heart set on getting the Praying Monk in the background of some of her images, which is one of the most recognizable features of Camelback Mountain here in the Phoenix area.
That is not always the easiest thing to capture. The angles, lighting, and access all have to line up just right.
This is where everything came together in the best way.
Sophia’s dad had a connection at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa, and we were able to get permission to photograph on the property. If you have ever been there, you know how stunning the views are. It gave us the perfect vantage point to highlight both Sophia and the mountain in a really intentional way.
One of my favorite things about this session is that Sophia does not have some big, deep reason for loving Camelback Mountain.
She just loves it.
She wanted something that felt different. Something she does not see in every other senior gallery. And that alone made this session feel so personal to her.
As a Phoenix and Tempe senior photographer, when a senior chooses a location that reflects their personality, their preferences, or even just something they are drawn to, the photos naturally become more meaningful.
And that is exactly what happened here.
Sophia is graduating from Corona del Sol High School and heading to University of Arizona this fall. She is so excited to start her next chapter in Tucson as a future Wildcat, and this session felt like the perfect way to capture this season of her life before everything changes.
How to Choose the Perfect Location for Your Senior Photos in Phoenix
If you are planning your senior photos in Tempe, Phoenix, or the surrounding Arizona area, here is the biggest piece of advice I can give you.
Choose a location that feels like you.
It does not have to be the most popular spot. It does not have to be something everyone else is doing. It can be a mountain you love, a desert landscape you are drawn to, or even a place that simply feels different.
Locations like Camelback Mountain can add a unique and recognizable Arizona feel to your photos, especially when we can incorporate views like the Praying Monk.
Your senior photos should reflect who you are in this moment. When you choose a location that feels personal, your photos will always stand out.
