Capturing moments in the stunning Sonoran Desert during golden hour is always magical, and this short family session was no exception. The sun was moving quickly toward sunset, which created the perfect soft light for their first-ever family photos as a family of four. With two little ones in tow—a 3-year-old boy and his sweet 4-month-old sister—it was the ideal timing for a session that wouldn’t exhaust the kiddos.
Honestly, the little brother was a superstar. At just 3 years old, you never know what to expect with this age. Sometimes they’re shy or distracted, but not this guy! He was all about flashing that adorable smile. In fact, during the candid moments, I couldn’t get him to look away. He was definitely trained for the “CHEESE!” pose, and it was beyond adorable. You never quite know how toddlers will respond during family sessions, but he made it easy and fun.
His baby sister, at just 4 months, was a perfect little angel. At that age, it’s all about snuggling up with mom and dad while I capture the natural connection between the family. It’s amazing how, despite the unpredictability of little ones, these short sessions can come together beautifully when everything aligns—sweet smiles, happy moods, and that gorgeous desert glow.
Despite the late September date, the weather was still well into the 100s, but the breeze made the heat manageable. Thankfully, the short session length kept things comfortable for the family, and the breeze really helped cool things down. There’s something about that warm desert wind that adds to the experience and keeps the energy lighthearted and easy.
The time flew by too fast, and honestly, I didn’t want them to leave. I could’ve spent more time with this sweet family, but I had another session right after, so we wrapped things up with just enough time to capture those final golden moments. The Sonoran Desert truly gives a one-of-a-kind backdrop, and I’m thrilled to have been part of their first family photoshoot as a family of four.
Every family session is unique, but this one was especially memorable. Watching their little boy’s enthusiasm and the tenderness they showed their baby girl made it one of those heartwarming experiences I won’t soon forget.
