Wren & Wolf - Downtown Phoenix

Sydney + Jordan

When a couple tells you they met during Air Force survival school, you know their story isn’t going to be your typical love tale. And honestly? Sydney and Jordan’s destination engagement session at Wren & Wolf in Downtown Phoenix was anything but ordinary  and I loved every minute of it.

These two are both pilots in the Air Force, living literally on opposite sides of the world. Jordan is in Korea, Sydney is in South Dakota. They’ve spent their entire relationship navigating long distance, timezone juggling, and cross-country meetups, but they still find ways to laugh, show up for each other, and make life fun. When they reached out to plan an engagement session in Downtown Phoenix a week before their destination wedding in Sedona, I knew we were going to have an amazing time together.

Why Wren & Wolf (And Why Phoenix)?

At first glance, Wren & Wolf just looks like a chic, moody, stylish restaurant tucked into the heart of Downtown Phoenix. However, for Sydney and Jordan, it’s so much more than that.

With their entire relationship being long-distance, they’ve spent the last couple of years catching flights just to spend weekends together. And many of those meetups  were right here in Phoenix! This city has quietly become their city…a landing place between deployments, time zones, and duty stations. And tucked into those weekend reunions were date nights at Wren & Wolf.

So when it came time to plan their destination engagement session (and wedding!), Phoenix made perfect sense. It’s where they’ve celebrated milestones, shared quiet dinners, and stolen a few rare in-person moments in between military life. And Wren & Wolf? That became their go-to date night spot. That’s why this session wasn’t just about getting “cool bar photos”… it was about honoring a space that’s become part of their love story.

We didn’t just shoot at a trendy downtown spot. We shot somewhere that holds memories for them, making this destination session in Downtown Phoenix all the more meaningful.

Uno, Elevators & Full-On Laughter

These two? Absolutely full of personality. One of my favorite parts of the shoot was incorporating a game of Uno into their session because that’s how Jordan proposed! They’re both obsessed with the game, and I loved that they brought the deck to their session at Wren & Wolf. Watching them playfully tease each other in the middle of this elegant restaurant? It was quirky, sweet, and totally them.

And then there was the elevator

After we finished up at the restaurant, we decided to grab a few editorial shots in the building’s elevator next door. Seemed easy enough… until the elevators were all pretty busy with people going up and down. Once they finally got inside, I forgot to tell them to hold the door open, so they got whisked all the way to the 12th floor. When they came back down and did manage to hold the door an alarm went off. 😅

It was fast, chaotic, and hilarious and somehow those elevator shots ended up being some of my favorites. I’m glad they had fun with it and trusted me with the vision! Honestly? It’s the kind of memory they’ll probably talk about forever.

From Google to the Desert

Sydney and Jordan aren’t even from Arizona. They found me on Google while planning their destination wedding in Sedona, Arizona and decided to come to Downtown Phoenix a full week early just to create this session. That means the world to me…not just because they chose me, but because they were all in on making this experience fun and meaningful.

We captured romance, laughter, a little chaos, and a whole lot of connection.
