We headed to the Salt River near Phoenix for family photos. This has quickly become one of my most popular locations for Salt River family photography, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Why a Full Family Session Worked so Well with a Toddler
This session with this family shows exactly why a full session was definitely beneficial for a little toddler this age. At the beginning of our session, you can see she is taking time to warm up and by the end, once we have played a little, she is all natural smiles. I love this part about interacting with families. And this is why full sessions are my favorite. Sometimes in a really short session, we are rushed and kids don’t get time to warm up in front of the camera. In my experience, toddlers sometimes need a little bit longer with extra play and exploration. This is when they usually when they start to warm up and we get to see their true personality come out. And you can definitely see that in the photos from beginning to end. That’s why I chose to post even some of those first timid, shy photos here.
Every booking I get, the family fills out a questionnaire. And when mom wrote that they like to play and dance, I knew we were going to be doing that in the water at the Salt River during our photography session.
I got so many beautiful, storytelling photos that I have to admit it was really hard not to share them all.
What to Wear for Salt River Family Photos
And let’s talk about those color choices and choosing colors for family photos. This might just be a new favorite of mine. Mom’s earthy rustic dress really popped against the desert and in the river water. And dad and daughter’s blue denim absolutely went so well it, especially against the earthy browns and greens up against the Salt River . Why I Love the Salt River for Family Photography
I loved this family photography session so much. You can’t go wrong at the Salt River. There is so much color here compared to our everyday desert locations in Phoenix. We get the browns from the mountains, the greens near the water, and of course the river itself. It’s just absolutely stunning.
But what makes it even better, besides the beautiful landscape, is the water. If you live in the Phoenix area, you know that we appreciate the water in the desert. And the river gives us time to play and splash around. And it does especially well if you want those playful, fun looking photos compared to our regular desert.
