When Victoria and Nathan reached out about their engagement session, I knew right away we’d have fun. They’re the type of couple who can’t help but laugh and tease each other, which makes photographing them an absolute joy.
Victoria is a teacher, Nathan works in the tech industry, and together they’ve made Scottsdale, Arizona, their home. Originally from cooler states, they both agree that they’ll take Arizona’s heat over the cold any day. Which explains why doing engagement photos in August didn’t scare them one bit. Honestly, that last golden hour before sunset is pure magic here, and I don’t think any of us even broke a sweat.
These two met while attending Midwestern University and decided to stay in Arizona after graduating. Next September, on their seven-year anniversary, they’ll be tying the knot. How sweet is that? They wanted their engagement photos to feel romantic and playful, and they couldn’t wait to use them for their save-the-dates.
Of course, their adorable 2-year-old golden retriever, Fen, made an appearance. He was the perfect little model, stealing the spotlight just enough to make us all laugh.
When it came time to choose a location, Papago Park in Phoenix was a no-brainer. Not only is it one of their favorite places to bring out-of-town visitors, but it’s also just a short drive from their Scottsdale home. They love hiking and exploring the park’s trails, and the desert views, red rocks, and that breathtaking Arizona sunset made the perfect backdrop for their session. Their life together is many adventures like that. In fact, Nathan proposed when they had made a trip to Pine, Arizona as they were hiking around the Tonto Bridge National State Park.
One of my favorite moments? Watching Victoria climb up some of those rocks in heels. Don’t worry, I asked if she was sure she was up to doing it. She was! I wouldn’t take a toddler that high for a family session, but with couples, I love exploring those scenic spots that show off just how beautiful Arizona can be.
By the time the sun dipped below the horizon, we had captured everything from sweet forehead kisses to playful twirls and that glowing Papago Park light. It was the perfect evening celebrating a love story that’s already six years in the making and just getting started.
