Let me tell you about one of my recent adventures at the stunning Riparian Preserve in Gilbert. Spoiler alert: it involves unexpected weather, but that’s where the fun begins!

As a natural light photographer, the light is my ever-changing canvas. Whether it’s the golden hour glow or the soft diffused light on a cloudy day, each session is a unique experience. The Riparian Preserve Gilbert, with its diverse landscapes and vibrant ecosystems, provides the perfect backdrop for family photos, regardless of the weather.

The Hawkins Family: a lovely family from the Midwest, Illinois to be exact, visiting Arizona for a week. They initially planned for a desert photoshoot, but life threw a curveball, and some family members fell ill during their vacation. We had to reschedule, and as luck would have it, I was already set to shoot at the Riparian Preserve that day. They were thrilled to join me there instead.

On the day of our session, the sky was draped in clouds, giving us a different, but equally beautiful, ambiance. One of the perks of a cloudy day is the flexibility it offers. We could shoot anywhere without worrying about harsh shadows or squinting eyes. And let me tell you, the Riparian Preserve didn’t disappoint!

We wandered through lush greenery, over charming bridges, and along tranquil waters. The cloudy sky acted like a giant softbox, wrapping the family in the perfect light. The results? Absolutely stunning. Capturing their joy and connection against the Preserve’s natural beauty was an absolute blast. I ended up with so many fantastic photos that picking favorites for my website was no easy task!
